Holy Joe Hare Scramble

This was the 2nd race in the AMRA series and also an AMA National event!  It was held in Mammoth AZ, just south of Superior AZ.   I had an amazing time at the event.  The staff were awesome, polite, informative and on top of it!

Driving up that entrance to the event was exciting!  Fantastic views and some place new!  What kind of terrain are we in for this time?  Kept looking at the dirt all the way to the event trying to guess what we would see on the trail.

I came up on Friday, went through tech and registration.  Drove down to San Manuel and stayed the night.  We got back to the venue about 7:45am and my friends and family help set up camp.

Went down to the drivers meeting, got into my gear and headed to the starting line.  Oh I like the 4 across start!  This is my second ever race and just love the new experience.  The sound of all those motorcycles!  Farout!  Got off to a great start.  Could not believe how loose the track was... that front end wanted to wash over everything.  I was constantly looking down to see if I had a front flat.  You learn to live for those little berms on a corner to dive into and power out of the corner....well, they were all slit and just gave way!  Whoosh!  I kept trying to remind myself to pace the race, but be more aggressive then the last race.

Just about everyone I came up behind got over and let me by after a couple of revs of the pipe, had a few that would give it up and I passed very aggressively and just loved how crisp my bike was running!  Buy the time I was wrapping up the third lap I felt good, came through the gate and had my hands in the air cheering away that I did it and felt good.  I rolled into the pits and asked a guy why I didn't see the checkered flag........  DER!@  It's a two hour race, get out there!  Angry FARGIN @@##%^@#^%@%$~

I saw 4 guys go whipping by and thought I have some time to make up and would try and pass those four guys again.  I rode so aggressive then that by the time I got to the hill after the white silt I blew it and went down, exhausted!  Made the hill and tried to make the best of it, hoping to see the checkered flag......NOPE!  White flag, gotta get one more in!

I adjusted my pace, still riding aggressive, but did not want to go down!  The 5th lap felt good!  Loved the wash, loved the straightaways, loved the single track.... just loved the race!

I came through the checkered flag, made it through the RedBull arch, got off my bike, knelt down and watched the ground start getting wavy!  And that puky feeling coming!  My pit crew showed up with water and gatorade and slowly recovered.

The gentleman from Dirt TV came over and interviewed me.... I still don't know what I said to him.  I had the words in my head, but between thinking I was going to puke or passout ....... well hopefully I sounded somewhat intelligent! HAHA! Grin

I am happy with my finish, frustrated that I didn't understand it was a two hour race, just thought I had 2 hours to do 3 laps... I know I know... the math doesn't line up now that I think about it!   I can't wait for race number 3! Smiley   Kudos to the coordinators... hope the fallen rider recovers quickly!

Special thanks to Kaylyn, Danielle, Jeanette, Shelby, Amber and Jenna for all your help, getting another pair of riding pants at the last minute since I left mine drying on the hood of the truck and forgot them, setting up and tearing down camp and awesome support before and after the race!
