Me and a good friend of mine (Johnny) worked with a company called Outdoor Logic to procure a new bumper for his Toyota 4Runner... we did an extensive write up on the install (here).  The next step was to procure and install a Smittybuilt XRC10 winch. He found a vendor in Apache Jct, AZ that was including synthetic rope if you purchased it from him. Johnny came over and I helped him wrap the line and then off to the desert to try and get someone stuck so he could winch them out.......
His winch came with a cool billet hawse fairlead for the synthetic rope
We hooked the eyelet to the drum (pain in the a$$) no room and gave it a couple of manual wraps
Yup he dropped the bundle....
Next we used manual power to hold tension on the rope to wind the first row.
Next we hooked the line to the back of Tim's Prerunner for an anchor. We set Johnny's e-brake to medium tension.
We couldn't help it.... having some fun!

Being a new winch and not sure about heating it up we took frequent breaks until we were within a couple feet of Tim's truck.
All done and looking spiffy!
Now it was time for a desert run and get someone stuck! ;D  We told Tim to go play in this river bottom in his 2wd Toyota Prerunner until he got stuck! OMG we laughed so hard when it only took him 3 feet off the road to get stuck! Video of him getting stuck!
We all know how we felt the first time we reeled out our first winch cable! ;D
After finding a safe winch point on the front of the Prerunner, Johnny dead a dead pull to see how the winch would work.... it worked flawlessly!!!
We went and played for about an hour till the sun went down... My batteries went dead in my camera...but I managed to snap one more right at dusk! (Bronco content) ;D
I love these little impromptu trips. The desert is in great shape right now. Love the scenery, the laughter and comradery of the guys! I am sure Johnny will get many years out of this winch!
